Reflection:

This book was a delight to me because I love old-fashioned books and
I also adore cynical comedy books. The secret diary of Adrian mole is
not a simple story of an adolescent but is deeply concerning other s
ocial topics as well which I really liked. The author is lightly conveying
some serious social issues such as family, love, and relationships with
other people which all adolescent go through with some difficulties.
I was not once bored reading this book because everyday of Adrian Mole is full of surprises. There were some inappropriate parts mentioning some sexual issues,
but we adolescents are all inappropriate after all, aren’t we?
When I first started reading this book, I was wondering if Adrian was a mental because everything he does and thinks is so clumsy.
In fact, all characters in this book are a bit strange but later on I got the message that the author is trying to convey through this book.
Through their eyes, I could see the England in 1980s better. Sometimes I read teenager story books that are almost too sweet; there is no reality but only full of fantasies.
I fine this book extremely bitter-sweet which I really like because it is the truth.
There is no polishing or over generalizing. The author is describing a teenager boy’s life as it is. Adrian is extremely calm handling difficult situations like his parents’ divorce.
If I were him, I wouldn’t be able to act like that.
Maybe he does not find it that serious because he is still naïve and immature.
To be honest, there are some parts that I can connect to Adrian (even if I am seventeen).
Also, I was very curious about English life because I have never been to England,
and even if this is a quite old book, I could still indirectly experience the life i
n England which was really refreshing. To conclude, I am very pleased that I had the opportunity to read this book. This book is very original and I would like to read it once again even if it is not for school assignment.
